I deliver practical, non-partisan social media training that helps councils support their councillors to communicate clearly, safely and consistently online.

The training is designed to reduce organisational risk, improve trust between councillors and residents, and support positive community engagement. It gives councillors the confidence to use social media in a way that reflects council values, aligns with codes of conduct, and avoids common pitfalls that lead to complaints, reputational damage or officer intervention.

Grounded in the Nolan Principles, the session creates a neutral learning environment where politics is left at the door and the focus is on respectful, inclusive and responsible communication.

Across a two-hour session, councillors gain:

  • Clear guidance on using social media to explain their role and stay visible, without crossing into electioneering
  • Practical advice on staying safe online, managing accounts and protecting personal wellbeing
  • An understanding of how social media works, and how to share local stories that residents actually engage with
  • Simple, accessible content skills, including tone of voice and short-form video basics
  • Confidence in handling negativity, abuse and major incidents appropriately
  • Reassurance around compliance, with clear signposting to council and LGA guidance.

The result is more confident councillors, more consistent online behaviour, fewer avoidable issues for officers to manage, and healthier digital conversations with residents.

The trainer

Hannah has spent over a decade helping public sector and non-profit organisations make social media work for them. From Islington to Rochdale councils, she has developed strategies and created content that connects with communities.

She understands the challenges of local government communications—whether it’s navigating complex political issues, improving engagement and reach, or training teams to be more confident online. Her focus is on practical, effective solutions that drive real impact, helping organisations improve policies, enhance content, and build team capabilities.

In addition to her strategic and tactical expertise, Hannah also provides hands-on training in essential skills such as interviewing, videography, and video editing.

Satisfied customers

Working with Hannah has been genuinely transformative for our team! From the moment she joined us, she brought a team‑centred, supportive and engaging approach that made a real difference. Hannah didn’t simply deliver a programme; she upskilled people at every level including both Officers and Elected Members. She helped us simplify our social media landscape, sharpen our strategy, and build a more human, resident‑focused approach. She introduced structures and rhythms that made our social media feel manageable, not overwhelming, and ensured the improvements were owned by the team - not dependent on her presence. In the time she was with us, she worked incredibly hard and delivered a huge amount: clearer governance, stronger policies, better planning cycles, streamlined accounts, and practical training that has already changed the way we work. She built confidence in video, storytelling, accessibility, tone of voice, and more. Because of Hannah, our team and wider organisation are more capable, more resilient, and more confident. She has left us not only performing better, but equipped with the foundations to be successful in a sustainable way. We are extremely grateful for everything she has brought to Tameside - her expertise, her energy, and her commitment to helping us grow. A brilliant partner, and a joy to work with!
